The talks would be the first between a sitting United States president and a North Korean leader and will take place by May, according to South Korea's national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, who delivered the invitation to Trump after a visit by his delegation to Pyongyang earlier this week.

Trump jumped on his favored medium of Twitter in response: "North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.' Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!" Trump launched an intensified sanctions and diplomatic offensive against Kim's regime after North Korea launched several new missiles and tested nuclear weapons that it said were aimed at reaching the United States mainland to deter a USA attack.

Chung Eui-yong spoke outside the White House after a day of briefings with senior USA officials, including Trump, on the recent inter-Korea talks.

He said that the North Korean leader has expressed his "commitment to denuclearisation" and will "refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests" during the negotiations.

But Sanders on Friday repeatedly claimed that North Korea had "promised" to denuclearize and said Pyongyang would need to take "concrete and verifiable actions" towards that aim for Trump and Kim to meet.

US -based experts say North Korea appeared to show last November that it has succeeded in developing a missile capable of delivering a nuclear weapon anywhere in the United States.

Xi "hopes the United States and North Korea start contacts and dialogue as soon as possible and strive to reach positive results", the report added. What if Kim insists the summit be held in North Korea's capital?

Donald Trump has agreed to have a meeting with Kim Jong-Un in Pyongyang, North Korea at some point between now and the month of May. The final three words of the tweet have the Internet up in arms: "Meeting being planned!"

The two leaders prompted jitters around the world a year ago as they exchanged bellicose insults over the North's attempts to develop a nuclear weapon capable of hitting the United States.

International Olympic Committee to implement 25 recommendations to promote gender equality
Of course, the importance of the upcoming referendum on the Eighth Amendment can not be forgotten this International Women's Day . For this we must put women's experiences and needs at the centre of the legal process and support women all the way through.

He said it will take "some weeks" to arrange the timing for their meeting. "The North Koreans are coming to the table despite the United States making zero concessions and, in close coordination with our allies, we have consistently increased the pressure on the Kim regime". "The Country I Saw" was created to justify North Korea's pursuit of weapons to a domestic audience. Given its image of a peace-loving nation, Kim Jong-un could be expected to take India on board and use its goodwill to his advantage.

The department's top Korea envoy, Special Representative for North Korea Joseph Yun, retired March 2.

The meeting will take place by May, South Korea said.

If the summit fails, the cost could be higher than in the past, observers noted, with North Korea firmly in possession of a nuclear arsenal and Trump having said military strikes may be needed to remove those weapons. President Trump's record of cozying up to authoritarian governments, his consistent failure to appoint, empower or value the expertise of professional diplomats, and his overall lack of focus on critical details also give me pause.

He said Trump had made the decision himself after determining the time was right for "talks" but not formal negotiations.

On Thursday, Chung praised Trump's "leadership and his maximum pressure policy" for paving the agreement with North Korea.

That pressure would not abate as the United States heads toward the historic talks, the White House said.

For at least two decades, leaders in North Korea have been seeking a personal meeting with an American president.

But such a meeting between the two unpredictable leaders could also come with risks, according to Jenny Town, assistant director of the U.S. -Korea Institute at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
