U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement on Monday, the deadline President Trump declared as the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

That essentially muted the March 5 deadline that Trump had set for the program, and Dreamers whose DACA permits expire can still submit applications to renew their protected status. "What do we want?"

Gov. Kate Brown who spoke at the rally said "Dreamers" - the term often used for DACA recipients - are an "integral part" of Oregon's community, culture and economy.

"We are here to make sure they don't forget about us".

"We are here to make sure they don't forget about us".

'Honestly, I didn't want it to come to this because I thought that congress was really going to do something, ' said Monica Perez, a dreamer in Colorado Springs. Just because federal courts are allowing existing permits to be renewed does not mean that Congress should continue to delay and be subjected to demands from the extremes in this debate. "And if we needed to go to the Supreme Court, we'd feel very confident there as well".

"Stop playing with our lives!"

The measure also calls for a $25 billion fund for border security. Democrats even took heat from some of our own for our willingness to compromise, but we were determined to find a solution.

TODAY'S FORECAST: Snow, high near 32
While not almost as intense looking as our current storm, this one could bring us more widespread snow with some rain mixing in. Hurricane-force wind warnings up just offshore, coastal flood warnings and high wind warnings are up as well.

Aside from finger-pointing between Trump and Congress - and within Congress between Republicans and Democrats - about who is responsible for the inaction, there hasn't been a lot of discussion on whether lawmakers can regroup on the issue soon.

Overall, the protest and the fast were done with intention to remind students of the importance of immigration reform, according to Margarita Zollo, political science junior.

President Trump threatened to eliminate the program by March 5, but a federal court ruling blocked that action, and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review it.

Despite the court order, Citizenship and Immigration Services has struggled to keep up with a flood of dreamer renewal requests.

He said the courts are unable to create temporary solutions, and he thinks the best solution would be for Congress to pass the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which would allow undocumented immigrants to become USA citizens. Democrats have denounced the proposal as racist.

The top ten countries of origin of DACA recipients are Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, South Korea, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, and the Philippines.

"Fix what you broke before it's too late", the group said in a new ad.

Alondra Quechol, 21, said she remembers her father's excitement when intentions for the program were announced in 2012, but added she's had a hard time focusing on her academic studies with her future in a country she's lived in since she was 3 years old in limbo.
