US goalie Rooney delivers gold medal performance

United States 3, Canada 2 (SO): After 20 years, the US women claim gold again

For the first time since 1998 the U.S. A. Women's Hockey team has beaten Canada for the gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

Keller, who graduated from North Farmington, played a key role in the game which went to a 20-minute overtime after three periods of regulation.

The tight game featured a thrilling shootout resulting in the United States winning its first Olympic gold in two decades in women's hockey.

"It's unfortunate that it had to come down to a shootout", said forward Meghan Agosta, who scored once in the shootout but was stopped by US goalie Maddie Rooney on the final attempt.

Joining Moir was his hockey-viewing buddy, and fellow figure skater, Patrick Chan, who also attended the women's gold-medal game won by Canada in 2014. During the last Winter Olympics in Sochi, it was the reverse situation, in which Canada edged out the US for gold.

"It's painful", Canada's Melodie Daoust said. He didn't worry about Rooney even after Haley Irwin and captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored in the second period to give Canada a 2-1 lead.

Maryland students march to White House in favor of gun control
Survivors of the Florida school shooting and others marched Wednesday to the state's capitol to rally for new gun regulations. The mass shooting at a Florida high school has inspired a growing youth-led protest movement.

That's the only shade of medal that has eluded the Americans since 1998, the last time they won it all in Nagano when women's hockey made its Olympic debut. The Olympics happen every four years, but it's a year-round thought process for the women on those two teams.

She faked a backhand and defeated Canada goaltender Shannon Szabados with a forehand on a move dubbed "Ooops, I did it again". "Obviously losing isn't a great feeling, but it's just something so special about this group and to be able to win a gold at the end of this tournament is incredible".

Were you excited to see Team USA's hockey victory?

Larocque went on to say that she meant no disrespect by her actions and that after the loss sunk in she takes pride in her silver medal.

Later Friday, Larocque issued an apology through Team Canada, the National Post reported. Bronze is all the Canadians have left to play for now, and defenseman Maxim Noreau promised they will shake off a tough loss in time for the puck drop Saturday night. I think I'm sort of bittersweet right now that the journey is over just because these women are incredible.
