Once a part of Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District, Clinton County residents now occupy the new 12th Congressional District, which includes most of the northeastern counties, some central counties, parts of Montour and Northumberland counties and State College in Centre County.

That, even as registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans in the Keystone State. That was the most important thing that needed to happen.

Two of three Democrats who had announced their intention to challenge Kelly this fall said Monday that they plan to run in the 16th District.

Landau said the redrawn map makes the county competitive for Democrats.

The new map also features districts that are more compact.

The suit was filed in USA district court in Harrisburg, the state capitol. Leach has suspended his candidacy in the wake of accusations involving inappropriate joking and sexual harassment.

Pennsylvania's high court issued a new congressional district map for the state's 2018 elections, overhauling a congressional map widely viewed as among the nation's most gerrymandered.

Since that year, despite the state being pretty evenly divided between voters of both major parties, Republicans have won the same 13 out of 18 districts. The Republican legislature and Democratic governor were directed to agree on a new map. Wolf rejected a map submitted by Republicans last week.

Jodun, who is four months into his congressional campaign, said he has the potential to run in the 12th District if the state Supreme Court map holds. "The Court's maps embrace the neutral criteria of compactness, contiguity, communities of interest and minimal county and municipal splits, which is good for Pennsylvania".

The presiding officers of the House and the Senate on Wednesday electronically filed an emergency request to stay a state Supreme Court order issued Monday that redrew boundaries of Pennsylvania's 18 congressional districts.

The AP reported that Latinos make up almost 17 percent of the state's population, but at the time, they had just over 7 percent representation in the Legislature.

The department's Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation (BCEL) is making the necessary changes to the voter registration database, the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE), so candidates can obtain updated voter lists from the department or from appropriate counties. In this lawsuit, Republicans are asking a federal district court to enter an injunction prohibiting Pennsylvania's Secretary of State, Robert Torres, from implementing the court/Persily's map. Delaware County Republican Party Chairman Andy Reilly said he supports that endeavor.

At least, we hope they would.

"This is a shameless attempt by Republicans to defend an unjust status quo that keeps themselves in power but deprives voters from having a meaningful choice in congressional elections", wrote Eric Holder, former USA attorney general.

Some legal observers are skeptical that argument will go anywhere in federal court.
