It's Canada And US Again For Women's Olympic Gold

Canada edge Finland 1-0 to get to semis

Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson's goal in the sixth round of the sudden death shootout, coupled with American goaltender Maddie Rooney stopping Canada's Meghan Acosta on her on shootout attempt, gave Team USA a thrilling 3-2 victory for the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Dani Cameranesi scored two goals and USA goaltender Maddie Rooney made 14 saves as the Americans, who haven't won Olympic gold in 20 years, booked a berth in Thursday's championship game.

Team USA has not beaten Team Canada in the Olympics since 1998, which also happens to be the last - and only - time the Americans won gold. Monique Lamoureux tied the game with six minutes left in the third period.

Marvin scored the game's first goal just 2 minutes, 25 seconds into the opening period-her second of the Olympics.

The USA has snapped Canada's gold medal winning streak after triumphing in an epic shootout in the women's ice hockey final at PyeongChang on Thursday. The men have done it, most recently when Sweden beat Canada in 1994.

Dani Cameranesi scored twice for the U.S. against Finland, with Gigi Marvin, Lamoureux-Davidson and Knight also finding the net.

Canada's Meghan Agosta replied to make it 1-1.

And yes, the Americans understand the United States-Canada playing for gold is what everyone expects to see. Just two minutes into the period, Haley Irwin put Canada on the board with an impressive deflection on a centering pass.

On February 15, Canada beat the U.S.

Instead, Canada's Marie-Philip Poulin tied the game and scored again in overtime.

German claim about Iran role in Syria-Israel tensions baseless
Israel responded by striking what it called Iranian bases and claiming to have wiped out most of Syria's air defenses. The operators of the Iranian drone were likely killed in their caravan, though this can not be confirmed.

"I think we've shown this group does extraordinary things in big moments and that's what we're looking forward to in the gold-medal game, to do something extraordinary", USA forward Hilary Knight said.

Mikkelson's assist in the semifinal was the second point of her 13-game Olympic career.

Canada has won every gold medal since then, and Thursday's match was the third time the teams had met in an Olympic final.

Finland remains winless now in eight games against the Americans at the Olympics.

Hopefully we'll get a USA-Canada rematch in 2022.

The reigning world champion Americans seek their first Olympic gold in 20 years, since the inaugural women's event in 1998 at Nagano.

"I would say we broke the curse today".

One thing you can expect from the championship toss-up, nearly always decided by one goal when these two teams meet, is the physicality that will awaken in each player at puck drop.

For anything less than a victory over Finland - and a trip to the gold-medal game against rival Canada - would have been a crushing defeat. Nearly every one of the 26 games they played against men's midget triple-A teams in Alberta had a shootout contest after the buzzer.
