Facebook is exploring the "downvote" button as a way for users to notify the social media site about "inappropriate, uncivil, or misleading" comments, a spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Perhaps the single most requested Facebook feature has been the one the company has been determined not to offer: a Dislike button ...

On Twitter Some Facebook users have reported about "downvote" button in the comment section of posts on public Facebook pages. The button is being tested by a small number of U.S. users only.

Giving user the option to downvote a comment raises interesting questions about Facebook's role as a publisher, rather than simply a platform, and regulation or censorship of the content it hosts.

"We are not testing a dislike button", the company said in an email. The option has begun to deal with the negative comments of any public post. Facebook in response said that the move doesn't necessarily mean that the "dislike' button will soon be available on the platform". Is this something you want to see on Facebook?

Response to AGLC halting BC wine imports
Other politicians are speaking up about the dispute. "This should not be about pitting BC businesses against Alberta businesses". He added that he had no intention of retaliatory action against Alberta and dispelled the rumours about a possible ban on beef.

For now, downvoting a comment will only hide it from view for the particular user. Facebook has said that this is a test for a limited time period and it won't affect the ranking of the posts in any way.

'That doesn't seem like the kind of community we want to create'. The company sometime back had introduced a few other options to further express their reaction to a post. But the downvote button could ensure that if objectionable comments rise up and stall discussion, Facebook will know. But, the only thing it has in common with 9Gag's downvote button is its name.

Importantly, there's no telling whether Facebook will eventually roll this feature out more widely.

In fact, it looks so similar that it even caught the attention of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian Sr. who tweeted: "Sincerest form of flattery!" In order to make this possible, Facebook will ask users for information such as their age and throw questions related to the age group they belong to. It's exclusively limited to providing feedback to Facebook about certain content.
