Kathie Klages, the MSU gymnastics coach, retired in February 2017, days after the State Journal reported that court filings accused Klages of discouraging athletes to report Nassar in the 1990s.

KATE WELLS, BYLINE: Hey, Steve. We need to learn the truth so those who enabled and protected Mr. Nassar are held accountable and our children are never abused by another Larry Nassar or Jerry Sandusky. More than 150 women and girls have given statements or had them read by others. We know that multiple women and girls say they have been talking to their MSU coaches, trainers, staff. Simon has apologized numerous times to Nassar's victims, including in the first paragraph of her resignation letter. "I have watched it grow and prosper, and it has been the honor and privilege of my life to serve as its president".

"In that courtroom, seeing women start to take back their power, there was really a sense of a shift ... of women saying, 'wait a minute, I'm not a number". When you go to the basketball game, you walk into the new Breslin, and the person who hustled and got all those major donors to give money was Lou Anna Simon.
