Michigan lawmakers turn legislative microscope on MSU, sexual assault

The moment the judge in the Larry Nassar case crossed a line

The judge overseeing the sentencing for former MI sports doctor Larry Nassar says victims are an "army" and "sister survivor warriors". She has seen a physical therapist who told her that she was doing the same procedure that Nassar did.but Kaylee said, that's not what Larry did to me, knowing that something was wrong.

Nassar, 54, of Holt, pleaded guilty in November to 10 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, with seven in Ingham County and three in Eaton County.

The sentence handed down is in addition to the 60 years he'd previously been given for child pornography charges.

At one point in the court proceedings, the judge read an excerpt of a letter Nassar wrote to the court in which he says his experience with the legal system had been a "complete nightmare" and badly handled. He said "no words" can describe how sorry he is for his crimes.

"Your words these past several days have had a significant emotional effect on myself and have shaken me to my core", he said.

Court officials initially expected 88 victims to speak in court.

He complained that his patients had turned on him. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned".

She asked him: "Would you like to withdraw your plea?"

Larson said Nassar would abuse her in the lounge were her teammates were watching television, and often in the presence of coaches and trainers.

They won't be in it. "I know it sounds ridiculous, like we're nearly talking about gangs here", he continued. He may have done that, but he also gave them a good laugh - along with the rest of the country.

"I wouldn't send my dogs to you, sir", she said. "We believe this step will allow us to more effectively move forward in implementing change within our organization", USA Gymnastics president Kerry Perry said in a statement. Almost 100 victim statements have been given by women who say Nassar was assaulting them while pretending to offer medical treatment.

That unleashed a flood of horrifyingly similar allegations. He has pleaded guilty to assaulting nine girls but faces civil suits from more than 150 others.

Last year, USA Gymnastics commissioned a review of its sex abuse prevention policies, led by a former federal prosecutor, but the review avoided assessing blame for Nassar's crimes, which are the subject of lawsuits against USA Gymnastics and Michigan State filed by more than 130 girls and women who've asserted abuse by Nassar.

Last week, Raisman and Wieber appeared in court to give statements regarding Nassar.

"I can not speak for what my daughter is going through", said mother Anne Swinehart when it came her time to speak. "Do you even know?" she asked, as she fought back tears while speaking for more than 20 minutes.

Lorincz, who said she was 13 when her innocence was stolen, told Nassar she didn't need an apology.

Board chairman Brian Breslin, however, said all of the other trustees support her. "But, in fact, the hardest thing I ever had to do is process that I am a victim of Larry Nassar". "If you truly want us to heal, you will do this for us".

The final speaker was Rachael Denhollander, the former gymnast who first made Nassar's abuse public in a September 2016 story in the Indy Star.
