Jason Roy, Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow in three-way battle to retain England spot from Ben Stokes

Bairstow not ready to step aside from settled role in England's one-day side

Australian cricket player quick Josh Hazlewood is ready to play on Friday's second one-day worldwide against England in Brisbane as he clears that he is totally fit and ready to play.while gloveman Alex Carey has been called up to cover for Tim Paine.

Eoin Morgan's side shrugged off a mid-innings wobble to easily knock off the 271 run target set by Australia.

Root followed up his two wickets with an unbeaten 46, sharing stands of 68 with Jos Buttler (42) and an unbroken partnership of 47 with Chris Woakes (39no). England have already won the first two ODIs and will look to seal the series by winning the 3rd ODI at Sydney.

Eoin Morgan's 70th ODI as England skipper; most by any England player was a successful outing. In contrast to Australia's decision to omit Zampa for White, England used spin to great effect, as Moeen Ali was again economical, Adil Rashid took vital wickets after being attacked early on, and Root's part-timers winkled out captain Smith. Reaching for that big finish, the hosts lost six for 62 in the last 11 overs. "I could come in and need to play a different role than being the impact bowler".

Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales both hit half centuries to provide England with the flawless platform in their reply. Post that, it became the Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow show.

Yet England have the batting depth to withstand such stumbles.

Left-arm paceman Starc also dismissed Moeen Ali in the same over to pick up his fourth wicket of the innings, handing Australia a faint hope of victory.

Colts take Bradley Chubb in Mel Kiper mock draft 1.0
He's a ridiculous athlete and really does show some NFL-caliber quarterback skills. "His numbers aren't impressive, I know". Cleveland Browns fans will have their preference at quarterback they'd like to see drafted if they haven't already.

Finch, David Warner and Smith represents a world-class top three, but Australia's middle order is looking pretty muddled 18 months out from a World Cup defence.

Everything Morgan and England tried came good. He accounted for the wickets of Smith and Head with his gentle off-spinners before guiding England home from a tricky position in the chase with his calm head.

The hosts played without leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who proved expensive in the opening ODI in Melbourne.

For the Gabba - Warner, Finch, Smith, Head, Marsh, Stoinis, Cameron White, Alex Carey, Starc, Tye, and Jhye Richardson. Just when Australia were sagging, he nabbed Hales and Bairstow in consecutive overs to tighten things up once more. No England batsman was remotely troubled by Head or Finch, while the tourists were able to outlast the excellent pace duo Starc and Richardson, who both bowled out before the end.

Hazlewood's virus maintains a pattern of illness that has affected numerous members of both the Australia and England squads since the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. They made three changes, yet produced a similar performance to their five-wicket defeat in the first match.

Speaking from Sydney ahead of the third ODI Starc said: "I think we've got the right formula, we have just got to get that performance together".

Head's dismissal was a case of putting a batsman out of his misery. Australia scored just 57 off the last 10 overs.
