Netflix is popping after reports of rising subscription prices
The standard United Kingdom subscription will rise by GBP 0.50 to GBP 7.99 a month with a premium plan for four simultaneous users rising by GBP 1 to GBP 9.99 a month.
The premium plan, which allows up to 4 devices on in addition to 4K streaming, has been increased to $11.99 to $13.99 per month.
Netflix has quietly raised the monthly subscription costs of two of its higher-tier options. All subscribers will be notified at least 30 days in advance, based on their billing cycle, though.
There's no real secret behind the reasons for Netflix raising its prices.
Netflixposted the new prices on its website on Thursday morning. New customers will pay the higher cost starting today. Netflix is raising prices again for subscribers in the United States. If you are subscribed to either the 2S or 4S plan, you'll see slight bumps in the monthly charges.
The streaming service is already profitable in the United States, and raising prices again at home will improve margins. It was the first time an internet-streaming program won the Best Drama Emmy Award.
The company sent out an email to all its users informing them of the price hike that will take place across the two premium tiers that offers. Netflix hasn't contacted its existing customers yet about the price hike and it is unclear when the prices will change for those customers. The world's largest subscription video streaming service last announced a price increase in October 2015 for new customers in the USA, with the rise kicking in for existing customers a year later. Huge growth has been seen in the company in just a year - for the same time period in 2016, subscribers globally numbered at 83.18m.
The price increase of October 5, 2017 is justified, as it is, that by the investment of Netflix in the creation and expansion of its catalog mailing.
Shares of Los Gatos, California-based Netflix gained 4.1% to US$192.03 (RM813.54) at 12.42pm in NY.
