The NFL's patriotic protests
Protesting began last season when Colin Kaepernick, the then quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, declined to stand as a way to bring attention to police treatment of black people and to social injustice. Six players from the Buffalo Bills, three from the Miami Dolphins and two from the Detroit Lions protested.
Some fans of the franchise threatened to return season tickets if protests by players during the national anthem continues.
