The NFL's patriotic protests

Jerry Jones says Dallas Cowboys were not influenced by Trump phone calls

Protesting began last season when Colin Kaepernick, the then quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, declined to stand as a way to bring attention to police treatment of black people and to social injustice. Six players from the Buffalo Bills, three from the Miami Dolphins and two from the Detroit Lions protested.

Some fans of the franchise threatened to return season tickets if protests by players during the national anthem continues.

"But as I said in my Twitter post, it's bigger than me".

It's as simple as that.

Korean War veteran Russell McCann, on the other hand, said the National Football League protests have discouraged him from patronizing the sport.

There are suggestions he has struggled to find a club because of his involvement with the politically sensitive NFL national anthem protest. Most of the standing players had their hands on their hearts and the other on the shoulder of their teammate in front.

The president's assault on professional sports players didn't end after calling for the removal of any football player who chose to exercise his right to peaceful protest.

He will deal with them: Hazard ready for Man City - Conte
We are ready for this massive game. "He's one of the three best players in the world". They have sons and I think it's important to give them the right responsibility.

The protests by athletes during the national anthem have sparked a heated discussion, but that discussion also flows into the world of NASCAR.

While it's being performed, I feel pride. I have been around the military life since I was four years old and I have personally seen the sacrifices everyone makes to serve our country.

Mr Trump sparked widespread controversy when he said such players should be fired by the league and use offensive language to describe them.

The world outside of the end zones was dramatically different on September 24 after the vitriolic comments from the president, including calling these peaceful protesters "sons of bitches".

Fans go to watch a football game, if they want to see or hear protesters then they can go to one out on the streets. They'd care about the paycheck and nothing else. "It was very powerful for him to be able to sacrifice you know his job for something that he loved doing for someone that he didn't even know personally", Watson says.

For me, it wasn't a hard decision at all - I felt it was my patriotic duty. I'm not on a side.

The Titans' Jurrell Casey, Wesley Woodyard, Brian Orakpo and DaQuan Jones raised a fist while Tennessee wide receiver Rishard Matthews was not on the field for the anthem. Those who sit, kneel or lock arms in a form of peaceful protest are fine to do that.
