Donald Trump continues to make comments on protests in the NFL during the

According to the US President Mr. Donald Trump, he's been in touch with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

"I am going to stand for the national anthem with my hand over my heart until the day I die", said Witten.

"You can not have people disrespecting our national anthem, our flag, our country", Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for a trip to Indiana. Never has anyone said they don't respect or honor the flag or those who gave their lives for freedom.

After Trump's comments last weekend, players, coaches and team owners asserted their right to protest by kneeling, linking arms, or sitting in the locker rooms during the national anthem.

The protests started when USA quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during a pre-game national anthem a year ago, to oppose police brutality against black Americans.

However, the protests have continued, and recently came under fire from Donald Trump, who, speaking at a rally, called the protesting players "sons of bitches".

Kurdish referendum: United Nations offers to help resolve Iraqi Kurds' independence crisis
That's due to tensions over an independence referendum held this week in Iraq's Kurdish region and disputed territories. Oil major Rosneft is increasing investment in Kurdistan and the Kurds have been developing strong ties with Moscow.

Kaepernick began kneeling August 14, 2016, during the national anthem before the San Francisco 49ers' first preseason game as a form of protest against minority oppression. Kaepernick, who's now a free agent, explained at the time that he's "not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color".

During a wide-ranging speech at a political rally in Alabama on September 22, Trump called for National Football League owners to fire players who engaged in such a protest. Dekoda Watson, a native of Aiken, South Carolina and linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, spoke out in support of Colin Kaepernick's decision.

However, "I want everyone to know that I've asked the players ... not (told)".

Wow, what has become of sports in this great country that I am more eager to see the anthem than the actual game on the field?

While Trump's recent crusade against kneeling during the national anthem has dominated much of the conversation regarding the issue - and has even overshadowed actual on-field play - it is achieving the opposite results he would like. It's believed he was "peeing" on President Trump. However the players say "we'll be standing together" this week. To me, it says, "that's about enough, Donnie". And for some it might not even have been about social injustice - more of a thumb in the eye to a president who thinks he can tell the National Football League what to do.
