Mandatory Evacuations Likely to be Ordered in SC on Saturday

Irma pounded SC with tropical-storm winds Monday, spawning tornados and a record-breaking tidal surge that put vast swaths of the Lowcountry under water. Residents or those who have evacuated from Florida to these areas should prepare for possible power outages.

Even with the center of the Irma expected to hit Georgia instead of South Carolina, Player said nobody thinks the storm will bypass us completely.

The center of Irma will continue to track across Georgia today, and move into eastern Alabama Tuesday morning. Flooding will become more of a concern on the local level.

The evacuation order takes effect at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Ward says between 400 and 500 homes received severe flood damage but there have been no serious injuries or deaths.

In the state's northeastern corner, Jacksonville felt the brunt of Irma's storm surges as the banks of the city's rivers and tributaries overflowed, inundating city streets.

Irma weakened to a tropical storm as it advanced towards Georgia, moving with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour, the US National Hurricane Centre said. Majority are customers of the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina and South Carolina Electric and Gas.

The first was over the Florida Keys, and the second, over Marco Island, left the island without water and power, authorities said.

The trustee will hold the legal title of the lottery property, while the beneficiary (the winner) holds the equitable title. People say they received their water bill from the Pueblo West Metropolitan District and couldn't believe how much it was.

"This is a storm that will kill you if you don't get out of the way", said National Hurricane Center meteorologist and spokesman Dennis Feltgen.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal already declared a state of emergency for all 159 counties as Irma barreled toward the state.

Irma's rain will spread inland toward western Tennessee, Kentucky and northern MS on Tuesday.

Edisto Beach is also being evacuated, along with Harbor, Hunting, Fripp, Daufuskie, Tullifini and Knowles islands.

Despite being weaker than Hurricane Matthew was when it passed by the city in 2016, Tropical Storm Irma helped push a greater amount of water onshore, and it struck right at the time of high tide.

Governor McMaster said Jasper, Colleton and Beaufort Counties can expect the heaviest rains and highest winds.

"We still can't let our guard down yet if the storm turns to the north quicker than expected", said Reid Hawkins, science and operations officer for the NWS. He's unsure how many people were on the islands when he issued the order.
