"This is your last chance to make a good decision, " Gov. Rick Scott warned residents in Florida's evacuation zones, which encompassed a staggering 6.4 million people, or more than 1 in 4 people in the state.

The west coast of Florida was braced for devastating storm surges of up to 15ft as Hurricane Irma barrelled its way north through the state on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction and shattering Miami.

There are roughly 7 million residential customers in the state.

TMZ reports a hurricane-relief telethon, set to air on all the major networks Tuesday night, will benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey as well as Irma.

Miami International Airport (MIA) will be closed Monday after sustaining "significant water damage" as the storm hit Florida on Sunday, according to the Miami Herald.

More than 1 million residents had already lost power by Sunday morning, and it could be days before officials can provide food and water to those struggling in the aftermath of the powerful storm. Officials say the band of rain and tornado producing cells is moving quickly.

Irma, after making landfall Sunday in the Florida Keys and Southwest Florida as a major storm, was downgraded to a tropical storm, with 70 miles per hour winds as it went up the Gulf Coast into North Florida.

"How are we going to survive from here?" asked Gwen Bush, who waded through thigh-deep floodwaters outside her central Florida home to reach National Guard rescuers and get a ride to a shelter.

Australia pledges $5 million to Rohingya
Dozens of Rohingya have died in capsizings since the exodus began, and there are other dangers as well. The report said $77 million in funding was needed to deliver urgent aid to the new arrivals.

"We have so much damage right now around the state". "Once this system passes through it's going to be a race to save lives and sustain lives".

Scott said the Florida Keys and Marco Islands were hit hard, and he's been in constant contact with Trump and FEMA as they continue to get food and water to those who need it.

"In the event of rising water, go up, not out", the sheriff's department added.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m. ET: Still no ratings, nor word on when they will be released.

Wondering when Irma will leave Florida?

While Hurricane Irma has lost a significant amount of strength, it is still a risky storm that continues to pound Florida. "Search and rescue teams are ready to deploy".

"My family only started to worry when the path of the storm started to turn west", Duncan said.

In Riviera Beach, on Florida's east coast, winds partially ripped roofs off two apartment buildings, forcing rescuers to evacuate about 50 people from the complex, according to CNN.
