Jaguar says the auto still handles, rides and brakes exactly like an original E-Type.
The electric powertrain is bespoke to the Zero, which uses a 40kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is roughly the same size and weight as the original straight-six powerplant.
Stuffing an electric drivetrain into a drop-dead gorgeous fully-restored 1968 Series 1.5 Jaguar E-type Roadster may just be my new favorite idea ever, and that's exactly how the Jaguar E-Type Zero was made. This unique combination creates a breath taking driving sensation.
E Type ZERO
Drivers can call an autonomous Future-Type to their homes when ready for a journey.
Jaguar Land Rover have unveiled a new version of one of their most iconic cars. "We think this is essential as it ensures a period Jaguar remains authentic to its DNA". However it promises to be relevant to more than just the E-Type: Jaguar suggests that it could be fitted to any XK-based vehicle, including the XC120, Mk2, and XJ6.
JaguarLand Rover says it's giving consumers more choice by electrifying all of its future products, and that's probably fair. The I-Pace all-electric crossover goes on sale next year; the Future-Type, an autonomous electric concept vehicle envisioning shared mobility in the year 2040, also debuted today. The automaker calls its intelligent steering wheel "Sayer", named after Malcolm Sayer, the designer who penned the C-Type, D-Type, and E-Type. The steering wheel can be removed from the vehicle and "lives in your home and becomes your trusted companion", the brand added. The idea is that you would only own a steering wheel, which would allow you access to a fleet of cars that could be summoned on demand.
The British vehicle maker took the wraps off the E-type Zero in London, today.
Just like every other concept vehicle these days, the Future Type is fully autonomous and electric. Designed from the ground up as an electric SUV, the stunning-looking thing makes good use of the inherent differences in packaging in electric cars without going all weird and oddball in its design.
