Solar eclipse visible in MI on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017
The difference between an annular eclipse and a total eclipse is due to the fluctuation in the moon's distance from Earth.
Your bag is packed, you've got your camera and eclipse glasses, your hotel room that you booked previous year is waiting for you - but the forecast is calling for persistent rain.
The path of totality, where the sun is completely obscured, is less than 70 miles wide. Legitimate solar eclipse glasses have special-purpose filters to protect your eyes, while fake glasses do not.
The last total solar eclipse in the United States occurred almost 4 decades back, on February 26, 1979. I've seen a total eclipse before in 1979, and that's what is literally driving me to see Monday's great celestial event.
Use approved solar eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers that are compliant with the ISO 12312-2 global safety standard for such products. The Great American Eclipse, and Music City is ramping up its festivities.

Just take two pieces of paper or cardboard, make a pinhole in one, then put the other paper on the ground. Florida International University is opening up its observatory for a watch party, as is Fox Observatory in Sunrise.
As with most outdoor activities this time of year in the Texas Panhandle, viewers will have to be mindful of the weather.
The weather forecast for the eclipse is becoming clearer, and luckily the skies are looking clearer as well.
The effect of the eclipse itself on the temperature probably won't be dramatic here.

If you are one of the 200 million Americans who live within a one-day drive of the path of totality, hopefully you have made plans to view the awe-inspiring event.
