Gylfi Sigurdsson transfer could have two sets of add-ons
Iceland midfielder Sigurdsson finally completed his protracted move to Everton on Wednesday night, with the Swans understood to have received a club-record fee of around £45million.
An accomplished No. 10, the 27-year-old can also drop deep, operate on the flanks or play as a forward if need be.
"Yesterday various people who work here at this club, their phones were going, the texts were coming in, the emails were coming in from agents all over the world, because they know we've done the Gylfi deal and want to do business and bring players in".
"This is an ambitious club and it is clear we are moving in a really good direction". The Sigurdsson deal will take Ronald Koeman's spending this summer to £131m, says the Daily Telegraph.
Sigurdsson was left out of Swansea's pre-season tour, as well as the Swans' opening matchday squad, due to the player having not been "in the right frame of mind" throughout summer.
Everton will definitely be without James McCarthy against the Croatian club, while Sandro is a doubt, but Koeman has pledged to name a strong side. Allen enjoyed the best campaign of his Premier League career last season, while Bony spent last season on-loan at Stoke and made just ten starts for the Potters. This has been one insane transfer window with the amount of money players have been sold for and paid for.
Sigurdsson has not played a match since the end of last season but Koeman is happy to throw him straight in, although the Icelander thinks 90 minutes is now beyond him.
If Clement manages to find a player that comes close to replacing Sigurdsson, then he would deserve massive credit.
"After a very hard and a long season previous year, if something would be possible for me to look somewhere else, I wanted to be open to it".
They welcome the Croatians to Merseyside in the knowledge that a healthy first leg advantage can help to propel the team into European competition; an outcome that would undoubtedly strengthen the manager's hand in any future negotiations with prospective signings.
"He knew maybe he wouldn't play every weekend but I would have been really happy to keep him".
