Priebus gone, can Kelly bring discipline to the White House?

Priebus gone, can Kelly bring discipline to the White House?

There are at least two dozens RNC staffers in the executive office of the president, working in communications, research and scheduling.

But perhaps that is not even what Trump, who seems to thrive on constant upheaval, wants.

"Team Trump is ready for service". For example, as a spat between Bannon and Kushner spilled out into the open in April, Priebus worked to arrange a d├ętente at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, according to a senior White House official familiar with the internal strife. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly is replacing Priebus. He's a great American and great leader. Those who have departed include former deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh, outgoing press secretary Sean Spicer and press aide Michael Short.

Trump had lost confidence in Priebus, privately questioning his competence after major legislative items have failed to pass congress, someone close to Trump told Reuters news agency.

Trump is out of control because no one in the GOP has the backbone to stand up to him, which means that the only way Donald Trump will ever be checked is if Democrats and the American people stand together to put a halt to this president.

That brought immediate questions about the ability of Scaramucci and Priebus to co-exist inside the Trump White House - and it took just a week for Priebus to be on his way out.

Mr Trump, however, is yet to roll out his catchphrase "You're fired!" and Mr Sessions said that while the president's comments were "kind of hurtful", he would continue to serve. Priebus had fought the hiring.

Priebus and Scaramucci both traveled Friday with Trump for a crime speech on Long Island in NY. "General John Kelly is one of the true stars of the Administration".

After months of speculation about Mr Priebus' fate, Mr Trump tweeted his decision as he landed in Washington after a speech in NY, in which he lavishly praised retired US Marines general Mr Kelly's performance.

Rep. Brooks: McConnell 'responsible' for health care repeal failure
That would be the ticket to negotiations with the House, which passed its own legislation in May. It was unclear whether Republicans had enough votes to push the measure through.

Trump has yet to say who he plans to nominate to take Kelly's place atop the Department of Homeland Security.

In a June interview with CNN, Kelly said that call from Trump's transition team about joining the administration came out of the blue, and he turned to his wife to get her thoughts. "John Kelly is one of our great stars". "Under past administrations, the border didn't go down - it went up".

In truth, Mr Trump had always been suspicious and disappointed with Mr Priebus, and there had been speculation about him being ousted nearly since he took the job earlier this year - having moved over from the Republican National Committee where he was chairman. Trump's abrupt announcement Friday afternoon came as a shock to current and former members. She said it had nothing to do with Scaramucci.

JUDY WOODRUFF: There have been so many ups and downs, as you know very well, because you have been covering it every day, for this White House. But a lot of the president's aides are just trying to reflect his own unhappiness about a White House he thinks that is talking too much.

PRIEBUS: He knows, I think, intuitively when things need to change. "I have tremendous respect for his successor, but it's ultimately a political position".

When pressed by Blitzer on why he resigned from the role, Priebus responded, "I'm not going to get into that personal stuff".

House Speaker Paul Ryan, a longtime friend of Priebus', said he "left it all out on the field, for our party and our country". In a highly unusual arrangement, he said Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon would serve as "equal partners" in implementing his agenda. With a retired general in charge, he hopes to bring in discipline and end the chaos inside the White House.

Officials there had grown exhausted of the four-star general speaking off message - about the president's plan to shut down the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, about the perceived vulnerability of America's borders, about the threat posed to American interests by any number of terrorist organizations.
