AMD's budget Ryzen 3 processors will start at $109, available today

Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake processor technologies are well known at this point. That trend continues in the Panzer VR ($3,350) and Panzer VR Pro ($3,700) machines, both packing Threadripper 1950X CPUs and 32GB of memory. The Ryzen 3 1200-which features four cores, four threads, a base clock of 3.1GHz and a boost clock of 3.4GHz-is priced below Intel's Core i3-7100, a dual-core chip with hyperthreading. Let's see what they have to offer. AMD stock currently has an RSI reading of 70.5, indicating that the latest uptick in the stock price has lifted the stock into overbought territory.

According to benchmarks supplied by AMD, the 1300X is 29% faster than the i3 7300 in the Cinebench nT benchmark.

NVDA has also been a scorching hot momentum stock, with shares gaining more than 190% over the past year. AMD has been known as the cheap alternative, but with its Ryzen architecture, it rebranded itself as the powerhouse with a greater value per dollar. While the Ryzen 3 series features the aforementioned 4 cores and threads, the Intel i3 line only features 2 cores and 4 threads.

The company's Radeon Instinct MI25 accelerators were shipped to strategic datacenter customers in the quarter. While the stock looks like an attractive long term buy, a short term pullback cannot not be ruled out.

Ryzen 3's price and theoretical performance makes it a compelling chip, but it's worth noting that it doesn't have a built-in GPU like the Core i3. It is even possible that Threadripper processors are a result of Epyc fabrication errors, though this seems unlikely.

In case you've been living under a rock (or simply aren't a PC hardware aficionado), Ryzen Threadripper is what AMD is calling its top-tier consumer-facing Ryzen CPUs.

Ryzen Threadripper is most likely going to draw quite some power and therefore generate a lot of heat, while at the same time offering serious performance.

Shares of AMD gained 24.4% year to date, significantly underperforming the 31% rally of the industry it belongs to. Power consumption stays fairly consistent with the Broadwell-E Core i7 6950X at a140W rating. Even modest share gains from Intel in the PC and server CPU markets, and from NVIDIA in the GPU market, can drive double-digit growth. We're able to divine that anyway, since Threadripper only has 64 PCIe lanes. It also scored 484 cb on the CPU test. Meanwhile, the 1200 scored a slightly lower 439 cb.

As the highest clocked 10-core processor in Intel's product stack, the Core i9 7900X should be the processor to beat in just about every work load. Such deactivation to hit a class of CPU is an expensive way of doing business, as the underlying die is ostensibly the same as the Ryzen 7 chips. But most will find a home on boards equipped with the B350 chipset, which has provisions for overclocking and offers plenty of connectivity options. More specifically, AMD is targeting the gamer who is aiming for a smooth 1080p gaming experience.
