One dead, seven injured after reported ride malfunction at Ohio State Fair

One Dead, Several Hurt in Ohio State Fair Ride Accident

Pace said Meade County's midway operator has been part of the fair for 40 years.

The accident left Tyler Jarrell, an 18-year-old from Columbus dead, and seven others between the ages of 12 and 14 injured.

People were tossed through the air, killing at least one and injuring seven others. Inspectors look at all the rides when they are on the truck, when they are being put up, and again when they are up and running.

All amusement rides in OH must be inspected at least once a year by the state inspectors to get a permit to operate, authorities said.

Similar rides from other manufacturers are operating at fair and special events around the state.

Inspectors conduct about 4,000 ride inspections at parks, carnivals and fairs throughout IL each year, officials said. "And what they are looking at is does it operate within the manufacturers requirements".

In Ontario, amusement park ride safety is overseen by Technical Safety and Standards Authority. An amusement park in California has now shut down a ride similar to Fire Ball that is manufactured by the same company.

The Fireball ride involved in the OH incident was operated by a company that does have a location in SC.

The Queen City Ex is set to open August 2, with the Saskatoon Ex starting August 8.

They are working with investigators to determine the cause of the accident.

In past years, the Fireball has been a popular attraction at the fair; "a dymanic thrill ride", said Lauri King, the fair's deputy manager II. Kroon also a Dutch newspaper,, that he was shocked when he saw the video of the incident, where passengers were thrown in the air after the ride malfunctioned. KMG technicians are not involved in maintaining the OH ride. But the riders were forced to remain in their seats for about five to 10 minutes, Kylie Neal said.

He says he was shocked by the accident and that the company's first priority was "freeing the injured people who were still in the seats".
