Floods Kill Two In Rajasthan Gujarat Declares High Alert

Heavy rains since Friday have caused floods and flood-like situations across India, killing scores of people and leaving several hundreds homeless. Khariya is one of the 30 villages that had been on high alert since the water level of the Banas river rose due to heavy downpour. The situation does not seen to get any better in Rajasthan where rescue teams have been deployed to help civilians.

In Assam at least 75 people have been killed and a state-wide emergency relief operation has been underway since April.

While reviewing the situation PM Narendra Modi inspected the devastation in the parts of Gujarat that are badly hit by the floods and heavy rains. "All these teams are self-contained and shall be operational in worst flood affected areas of Gujarat by tomorrow morning", the official said.

On Wednesday, the state government claimed that only 11 new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, while sources put the number at 50, that too in Banaskantha alone.
