Why Nintendo Switch sales figures make interesting reading for Sony and Microsoft

Usually, games like Pokemon are sold very fast in the first weeks after the release, reaching incredible numbers such as over a million copies of them. 3DS game sales was down 31% from the same period last year, but hardware sales rose 1% year-over-year.

As posted over on Engadget, Nintendo made 64.73 billion yen ($578 million) in gross profit.

Nintendo maintained its earlier net profit forecast of ¥45 billion for the 2017 business year, down 56.1 percent from the previous year when it sold off Major League Baseball team the Seattle Mariners. On Wednesday, Nintendo said operating profit for April-June was 16.2 billion yen ($145 million), exceeding analysts' average projection for 10.6 billion yen. 5 million total sales is within sight, and given the Switch's popularity, it's possible that the console has already hit that milestone.

See? It's not only the Switch that is printing money, but also Amiibo figures and Nintendo apps. Nintendo has been unable to keep up with demand for the hybrid home-portable console, and stores in Japan have been operating lotteries for customers to get the chance to purchase one. Well, the release date is August 15 with the suggested price of USD 775... or 24 easy payments of USD 45 which raises the price to 1080 dollars.

Israeli embassy staff home after Amman standoff
The PA also cut all contact with Israel, following the move. "I promised the security guard that we will bring him back". Previous crises have shown that both sides are willing to make gestures to maintain the relations.

And it's not just the system that's doing great.

The Nintendo 3DS continues to do well for itself with total sales of 67.08 million units, this us up from 66.12 million back in April.

There's a real battle between Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with Deluxe now sitting on 3.54 million units. Nintendo managed to sell nearly a million more 3DS during the last quarter and 5.85 million games.

"ARMS" rolled out in June and also had a good start with 1.18 million units being sold worldwide. The holiday season will soon be here, and there is little doubt Switch will be a hot item during that time. Traditionally Sony and Microsoft have traded blows more or less equally in the console space.
