Britain To Ban Fuel-Powered Vehicles in 2040

"We're very encouraged that the government has decided on a total ban of petrol and diesel vehicles from 2040".

Globally, 95% of electric cars are sold in only 10 countries: China, the U.S., Japan, Canada, Norway, the U.K., France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.

"Nonetheless this is highly symbolic since it signals to both the public and to manufacturers that there is no turning back from electrification", he added.

The best guesses have already suggested that the pendulum will have well and truly swung towards battery-powered cars and away from the internal combustion engine within 20 years.

'What do you produce electricity from?'

AFP | Technological advances mean fossil fuel in cars could be phased out within decades but switching to electric carries its own environmental and economic concerns as more and more countries announce radical plans.

"We welcome the clarity provided on the transition to a future where electric cars are the norm".

"It's not enough to say they'll take care of pollution and people's health in 23 years' time, we need ministers and councils to put plans in place now to tackle engine idling and improve vehicle sharing". The Times newspaper said the supply of hybrid vehicles, which have an electric and petrol or diesel engine, would also end.

Trump vows to 'liberate' country from Obamacare
That is the message that President Donald Trump delivered Tuesday to more than 12,000 people at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown . Trump said that he hadn't been given credit in the news media for the accomplishments made in his first six months in office.

This is one element of the government's £3 billion program to clean up the air and reduce vehicle emissions, said Gove.

Electric cars have much to commend them.

"We need a fully-funded diesel scrappage fund now to get polluting vehicles off our streets immediately, as well as new powers so that cities across the United Kingdom can take the action needed to clean up our air", Khan said in a statement.

"Industry is working with government to ensure that the right consumer incentives, policies, and infrastructure is in place to drive growth in the still very early market for ULEVs in the United Kingdom", he said.

The government hopes that these plans, combined with the headline internal combustion engine ban in 2040, will be enough to assuage the naysayers-and, one assumes, to stop the air quality on some United Kingdom streets from being illegally poor.

Nigel Stein, chief executive of GKN, the FTSE 100 engineer whose components are reckoned to be in every other new auto globally, put it succinctly: "This is not new news". Sales of those vehicles were up 25% in the first quarter of 2017. From 2020, BMW will offer a fully electric option for each of its models.

The BMW i3, Renault Zoe, and Tesla Model S, have been the top three in United Kingdom electric vehicle sales this year, according to Auto Express.
