Nigel Farage: 'I Am Disgusted' Charlie Gard Was Blocked From US Treatment

It says a hospice would be a more appropriate place for him.

The court is due to reconvene on Wednesday at 1 p.m. GMT (9 a.m. ET).

At stake is whether his ventilation tubes should be withdrawn in the hospital, in hospice, at home soon after transfer or at home after a period of days.

However, the Family Division of Britain's High Court ruled back in April that the therapy would not have increased Charlie's chances of survival, and therefore rejected the family's petition to travel for therapy.

Charlie suffers from mitochondrial depletion syndrome and can not breathe unaided.

In France, the case of a man who was left severely brain damaged and quadriplegic as a result of a 2008 road accident has been in the courts since 2014.

"Our son is an absolute warrior and we could not be prouder of him and we will miss him terribly", Chris said.

He added that in April [a possible] USA transfer was "not an obstacle to the care of Charlie but for some reason transfer from a hospital in central London to an outlying part of London seems to be problematic".

Mr Armstrong said representatives for GOSH had not visited the family home.

"The parents wish for a few days of tranquillity outside of a hospital setting", he said. But lawyers representing the hospital said there were practical problems and the couple had put forward no clear plan.

Ending a case he called tragic for all involved, the judge paid tribute to Charlie's parents, saying it was impossible to comprehend the agony they faced. In circumstances where there is a dispute between parents and the hospital, it was essential that Charlie was himself independently represented and a guardian was therefore appointed to represent Charlie so that there was someone who could independently report to the court as to what was in his best interests.

They had asked Mr Justice Francis to rule their son should be allowed to undergo a trial of nucleoside therapy in NY, a move opposed by hospital medics who argued the treatment would be "futile". The parents appealed a High Court decision, and their appeal to the U.K.'s Supreme Court was rejected.

Mr Justice Francis said he would make a decision about where the 11-month-old boy should spend the remainder of his life today.

"GOSH's hope for Charlie and his parents was that that optimism would be confirmed", GOSH said in the statement.

The feverish commentary led the judge to criticize the effects of social media and those "who know nearly nothing about this case but who feel entitled to express opinions".

Mr Armstrong told the court: "We return to the court for perhaps the most hard, emotional part of this case - the circumstances in which Charlie's passing will be conducted".

English courts and the European Court of Human Rights agreed with the healing center. Both President Trump and Pope Francis had expressed public support for the Gards in their quest to pursue an experimental treatment for Charlie.
